Teacher's Edition Lesson Summary ~ Ages 8 & Up
"Excuse Me" Skit
Give the skit to three students to perform. Ask the students how many times the phrase Excuse me was used. Direct the students to turn to page 29, #6 and read, Excuse yourself when you belch. When someone else belches: what words do you think go in the blanks? (Just ignore it.)
What Not to Say
Instruct the students to turn to page 30. Just as there are some things you should say, there are some things you should not say. In Matthew 12:36, Jesus tells us we are accountable for our careless words, so choosing the right words is important.
Ask team leaders to pass out an index card to each student. You will use your index cards in a few minutes, so be sure to listen carefully. Remember not to say anything that would hurt, offend, or embarrass anyone. If someone has a problem, pray for that person. Ask how you can help. Tell him you are sorry for his difficulties.
So we do not want to say anything that would hurt, offend, or embarrass anyone. What if someone hurts, offends, or embarrasses you? Be willing to forgive and forget. We all make mistakes and can be insensitive at times. Just as it is attractive to show concern for others, it is unattractive to hold on to hard feelings. It pushes people away from you. Ask God to help you forgive.

Index Cards
Write "OOPS" on your card. Get ready to hold up your "OOPS" card if I name something that would hurt, offend, or embarrass someone. For variety, ask different teams to hold up the cards for different topics.
1.   What about Gossip?
Students hold up their cards. That's right, thank you; you may put your cards down. How could gossip hurt, offend, or embarrass someone? Wait for students' responses. No matter how so-called interesting the gossip may be, it's just not worth the damage or pain it could cause by your repeating it. Even if no one told you not to repeat it and even if everyone knows it, do not be the one to keep it going. When others want to confide in someone, they will remember that you do not gossip.
